The Jones Center Diabetes Self-Management Education class is a comprehensive coverage on the basics of diabetes, diabetes nutrition, and exercise; and is recognized by the American Association of Diabetes Educators for meeting the national standards for DSME. The class helps patients learn critical skills for diabetic self-management that will help the patients with diabetes on the path to wellness. Classes are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, and require a doctor’s referral. There is no requirement to be a patient at this facility to be able to come to class. Most insurance plans are accepted including Medicare. We will check insurance coverage for class before attending. Diabetes is a disease that affects your body’s ability to produce or use insulin. Insulin is a hormone. When your body turns the food you eat into energy (also called sugar or glucose), insulin is released to help transport this energy to the cells.
